News and updates from Dr. Healey, for the week of September 19

Hello Colgan Families,

It’s hard to believe we are rapidly approaching October. Most months at Colgan High School are busy and October will prove to be no exception. To go along with all our normal happenings, we have the additional excitement of the following events:

October 9: Parent Touch Base Day/Professional Development Day–There is no school for students on this day. You will be receiving additional information so you can take advantage of the opportunity to have a five (5) minute “touch base” meeting with your child’s teachers. This event is not designed to be an intensive conference, but rather just a chance to check in with all, or some, of your child’s teachers.

October 9: Cardinal District Competition Cheer Tournament– Hosted at our school, with the competition starting at 5 pm.

October 12, 13, 14 (7 p.m.)- Colgan Theatre presents the first of two musicals this school year -“Rent: School Edition.” Tickets can be purchased at Ticket Spicket.

October 16 to October 21: Homecoming Spirit Week–Each day this week will have a designated theme. Students and staff are encouraged to participate and dress according to the theme days. Traditionally, at Colgan many students participate (although it is not mandatory). Be prepared, your student may ask you to help them with their outfit for the day.

October 18: PSAT Day-On this day Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will have all tenth (10th) & eleventh (11th) grade students take the PSAT. Ninth (9th) grade students will take the 8/9 PSAT. Testing is online and will occur at school during the morning hours. Seniors will work asynchronously from home on college and career activities.

October 20: Homecoming Pep Rally and Football Game–Spirit week culminates in a student pep rally on Friday afternoon and the Homecoming Football Game at 7 p.m.

October 21: Homecoming Dance–The homecoming dance is held at Colgan High School from 7 to 11 p.m. Announcements about ticket sales will be forthcoming. Traditionally, our homecoming dance is well-attended, and it is open to Colgan students in all grade levels. Students may bring one guest from another high school (middle school students are not permitted to attend), provided they have a guest approval form filled out prior to purchasing the ticket and the guest arrives and leaves with the Colgan student.

October 27: Trunk or Treat–A new tradition at Colgan High School which started last year. Details will be coming soon, but essentially this event takes place before the home football game and most clubs and activities participate. Elementary aged students (accompanied by their family) are invited to visit clubs/activities tables set up to get a special treat. Live music is provided by some of our Colgan musicians.

I'm tired already, just listing some of our October events! See you around the school!
