Colgan Counselors

Ashley Colassard new counselor for 2021

Ashley Colassard

Ms. Colassard attended George Mason University receiving an undergraduate degree in Psychology before continuing at George Mason to receive her M.Ed. in Counseling & Development, graduating in December of 2018. She began her school counseling career in January of 2019 at Osbourn High School, having worked there for the past two and a half years. She is a PWCS Graduate of Woodbridge High School and is excited to get back to the county and to join the Colgan Community! In her free time, she enjoys watching sports (big fan of all Washington sports teams!), gardening, cooking, and her favorite: crafting! She is excited to work with the students and families at Colgan! Go Sharks!" 


Tiana Nobel new counselor for 2021

Tiana Noble

Ms. Noble attended Norfolk State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and M. Ed. in School Counseling. She is currently working towards a 2nd Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. For the past 11 years Ms. Noble has been a High School Counselor in Southern Virginia. She is passionate about encouraging students to love themselves and enjoy life. Ms. Noble enjoys relaxing on the beach, traveling to tropical islands, shopping, and having fun with her family. Fall is her favorite season, because it’s Football season. She is a Dallas Cowboy fan, and isn’t afraid to say it. While relaxing on the beach you will find her enjoying the sounds of various types of music. Since traveling is limited, she enjoys the comforts of her home journaling or writing poetry. Her favorite quote is “You can never accomplish what you won’t pursue.” Ms. Noble gains inspiration comes from her mother. Her mom is her best friend and biggest supporter. Ms. Noble is thrilled to join the Colgan family and looks forward to inspiring students to reach their highest potential!

Ms. Ferrone English Teacher for 2021_2022

Melissa Ferrone

Ms. Ferrone has been teaching since 2013. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Nonfiction from West Virginia University, where she also taught Composition and Rhetoric for three years. In addition to teaching American Literature, she is an adjunct professor for Northern Virginia Community College, teaching Dual Enrollment College Composition. Ms. Ferrone loves reading and writing, but she loves teaching most of all. Her husband is also a teacher in Prince William County; as a family they eat, sleep, and breathe education! At home, they have two dogs and ten chickens, so life is always eventful!

Cullen Nolan Social Studies new teacher 2021_2022

Cullen Nolan

Cullen Nolan earned his Bachelor of Arts double majoring in History and English, and Masters of Arts in Teaching for History, at the University of South Carolina. He has been teaching for twenty years in Prince William County; covering World History, US History, 20th Century History, and Sociology. Mr. Nolan loves reading and writing stories, listening to and playing music, traveling the world, and spending time with his wife, daughter, and son.


Ms. Rebecca Sabean, Social Studies Teacher

Rebecca Sabean

Ms. Rebecca Sabean is a Manassas native and graduated from James Madison University with her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and her Master of Arts in Teaching. She enjoys taking care of her many houseplants, crocheting, and playing Animal Crossing in her free time. Arboretums and Museums are her favorite trip destinations, and she loves to virtually “visit” them whenever possible in her classroom!

Patricia Nunes math teacher for 2021-2022

Patricia Nunes

Ms. Nunes graduated with a B.A. in mathematics and a minor in business as well as a master's in education from GMU. As a mom of three children, Ms. Nunes dedicates most of her time to them. As a fan of swimming, she spends a lot of her time taking her three children to their swim lessons. During her free time, Ms. Nunes enjoys baking, going for nature walks, and traveling as much as possible. As an educator, Ms. Nunes believes every child should have the opportunity to develop their abilities to the maximum in a supportive learning environment.


Ms. James, Math teacher for 2021-22

Maura James

Ms. James graduated from Florida State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a concentration in Secondary STEM Education. She has spent the beginning of her career teaching grades 6-12 Math. Ms. James enjoys spending time at the beach, traveling as much as she can to new places, and relaxing at home with her husband and two cats. Her husband is a Marine, and his job has allowed them to move and live in a few different states. Ms. James is looking forward to joining the Colgan High School family this fall and sharing her love of math with her future students. She believes that all students should have the opportunity to develop their mathematical knowledge and abilities in a positive atmosphere and with an open mindset. Her goal is for students to leave her classroom with a more positive outlook on math than when they first entered.

Keira Naff chemistry teacher for 2021_2022

Keira Naff

Ms. Keira Naff is a recent graduate from Longwood University, where she earned her Bachelor's of Science degree in chemistry with a concentration in secondary education. Throughout her time at Longwood, Ms. Naff had the opportunity to tutor fellow undergraduate students in chemistry, work with a group of prospective college students through the American Chemical Society's Project SEED program, and participate in biochemistry research with a faculty mentor. She is looking forward to sharing her experiences with her future chemistry students at Colgan High School this fall and is hoping to inspire some of those students to pursue similar careers in the future.

Ms. Najolia Physics teacher for 2021 and 2022

Dorothy Najolia

Ms. Najolia earned her undergraduate degree in Physics from Mount Holyoke College and her Masters in Acoustics from Penn State University. She worked in industry as an acoustical consultant before becoming a teacher. Ms. Najolia taught mathematics and physics in Massachusetts for 8 years and then moved to Virginia. During this time, she has taught physics throughout northern Virginia, including two years at Osbourn Park High School. She is looking forward to returning to PWCS and teaching physics at Colgan. When she is not teaching, Ms. Najolia enjoys gardening and traveling abroad.

Ms. Pietro, Biology teacher for 2021 and 2022

Mary Pietro

Ms. Mary Pietro a native Western New Yorker, who moved to Virginia in 2015. She has four children and two dogs. She is a huge Buffalo Bills fan. Ms. Pietro is a former cancer researcher, previously working on clinical trials. She completed the Career Switcher Program through Shenandoah University and obtained her teaching certificate after coming to VA. Ms. Pietro is very passionate about biology and enjoys running labs in the classroom. She loves seeing her student’s progress throughout the year and grow into amazing young adults by the time they graduate high school. She loves running, paddle-boarding, and reading during her downtime.


Colgan World Languages

Zaid Rodgriguez world language teacher for 2021 and 2022

Zaid Rodriguez

Zaid Rodríguez leads the Spanish classes in High School to foster a culture of thinking through the uses of language, compressibility and literature for understanding the actual world in a critical way. Previously, Zaid spent over 11 years being a teacher and coordinator of the Spanish Department at the secondary level. Between 2019 and 2021, he served as a senior teacher and commanded the Spanish secondary team. Prior to this, he was a Spanish and Literature teacher from six to eleventh grade being homeroom teacher all these years. Also, he was elected as representative teacher for 2018. Zaid has a bachelor's degree in “Humanidades y Lengua Castellana” from the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas and a master's degree in “Literatura y Cultura” from Seminario Andrés Bello, Instituto Caro y Cuervo. Also, he has been trained in “Estudios de Lengua A: Lengua y Literatura” for Diploma Program International Bachelor (IB).

Juan Montoya world languages teacher for 2021-2022

Juan Montoya

Juan Montoya is a teacher from Medellín, Colombia; has a bachelor’s degree in bilingual education in teaching Spanish – English from the university UPB (Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana); loves to write, that is why he did a specialization on literature, with emphasis on creative writing. On the other hand, this is not his first teaching experience outside his country; so far, he has been teaching for 11 years, where he has worked for different schools, private and public. He loves to teach, and his years of experience has taught him that each student is different, and that each student has its own potential.

Chris Northrup special education teacher for 2021_2022

Chris Northrup

Chris Northrup grew up in Parkersburg, WV, attended high school outside of Philadelphia, and graduated with a BA in Humanities from Kenyon College in Gambier Ohio. He studied Theology at St. Andrews University in Scotland, and he has a Master's degree in Education from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia. He has been a teacher and coach for twelve years--most recently serving as an LD teacher and assistant swim coach at Patriot High School. He has four adult sons whom he loves to visit. Chris likes to spend time outdoors cycling and hiking and competes at a high level in triathlons.
