To Get Started

  • Click on Application Process beginning November 1
  • To receive an audition for Colgan's Specialty program you must select Colgan as First Choice
  • Online applications for Colgan High School must be submitted by December 14th before 11:59 pm

Important Note: On the application you must make Colgan Center for Fine and Performing Arts your #1 choice.

Due to the high number of applicants, we can only schedule auditions for students who make Colgan their primary choice. If you are interested in the IT program at Forest Park, you can choose that as your second choice. If you are not chosen for Colgan, your name will be still entered in the lottery for your second choice.

Applicants for the Center for Fine and Performing Arts will:

  1. Complete the online application and submit it ONLINE
  2. Students only use your PWCS email ( on the application
  3. Participate in an audition or portfolio overview
  4. Upload signed enrollment agreement to specialty programs county website
  5. Upload the completed qualifications form to specialty programs county website
  6. Dress appropriately for the virtual audition. Music Visual Art and Creative Writing students should dress professionally. Theatre and Dance students should dress comfortably for movement. (proper dance attire for dancers).
  7. Participate in the audition on the date and time given to you. You will receive this information in a letter in December via email after applications have been processed.

Audition letters will be sent electronically before Winter Break by central office along with the enrollment and qualifications forms for auditions

Vocal Music Audition Requirements

  1. Students will participate in a 10 minute group warm up session if in person auditions are held. Students will be led by Ms. Staley and they will work through vocal warm ups, aural echo skills and learn a part song by ear.
  2. Students must prepare approximately one minute of a song from “Pathways to Song: Volume 1” (low or high voice) or one of the selections listed below from “24 Italian Art Songs and Arias” (any key).

    Both scores may be found in local music stores. Students must be prepared to sing their choice from memory and must provide the piano sheet music at the time of the audition. Copies are acceptable. An accompanist will be provided, or you may bring your own, if in person auditions are held. If virtual, students can record the accompaniment and sing along with the recording. Students are responsible for their own accompaniment in this case. Please clearly mark the one minute excerpts in the scores you bring for the judges and accompanists. Post-performance, the judges may provide vocal coaching and a brief range testing.

    *** Please note that the exact audition type- in person or virtual has not been determined yet due to Covid restrictions. We will post more information on format as the date approaches and we receive more information from the CDC.

  4. Students will sight read eight measures. The sight reading will be step-wise, range from do-la, start and end on Do, and consist of eighth notes and quarter notes. The sight reading will be presented in the key of Eb or C, however, the student may ask for a different starting pitch if needed. If students would like a different starting pitch they should be prepared to request the new key of their choice. Common choices include: Bb, Ab, F and G.
